July 31st is somewhat of a bittersweet day here in the northeast. it's a reminder that our summer is half over. It makes us want to take stock of how we had hoped to spend our summer, and measure how well we have met our goals, which usually include lots of time at beaches, festivals, fireworks, outdoor concerts, and all the great little towns near and far. Are you on track for a great summer, or do you need to switch gears and hit the beach?
My summer has been a busy one, and in the best of ways. I like to call it my Bucket List Summer. I have been on a puffin cruise in Maine, I have watched sea turtles returning to nest on Florida's east coast, and watched the baby turtles find their way to sea for their first taste of life in the ocean. I've watched the sun set in Key West and witnessed it rising from Hilton Head Island. I've watched the full Wolf Moon rise and set over Florida's Space Coast, and witnessed a Space-X rocket launch from Cape Canaveral. Of course I've had my camera all along the way, and I'll be sharing those images with you.
So what is left to do? I can tell you I have missed being on Long Island this summer, so I'll be making the most of the month of August! I may not add any new checks to my bucket list, but I hope to revisit some whales, wineries, and waves. I'm also wishing for a little wild weather, and some wonderful skies! The Perseid meteor shower should be really spectacular this year, so join me in wishing for clear skies the night of August 11-12. Happy August! Happy summer!
